Pseudo models

Hong Kong has never been what you would call a suitable "breeding ground" for models. Indeed, Kathy Chow and Eunis Chan are two very prominent faces in the industry, but both are better known for their turbulent love lives and side-careers in TV presenting, rather than their accomplishments in modelling.

With most commercials and billboard campaigns being endorsed by local actors, actresses and singers (or the occasional "outsourced" Caucasian model for the bigger brand names), it's a really small market for professional models out here.

So when a pretty, fresh-faced nobody called Chrissie Chau arrived on the Hong Kong modelling scene several months ago, no one gave her so much as a second glance. Luckily, she did catch the eye of Slim Beauty Group, a beauty salon chain specialising in slimming treatments, and was cast as the star of the following 30-second ad.

*Drool*

Suddenly, Chrissie was EVERYWHERE ~ her angelic face and devilicious body was splashed across magazine covers, sides of buses and the walls of MTR stations, wearing little more than a few scraps of cloth.

Soon, other teenage girls, each one wearing less than the next, began springing up left and right, front and back. This new generation of models came to be colloquially known as "leng mo" - kid models (or "pseudo models" in English). These girls may have no modelling experience or potential to speak of, but they do have one particular quality that gives them an edge ~ a sheer enthusiasm to strip!

Let's see who we have...

Angelababy

Kama

Lavina

Chrissie again

That last one is kind of inappropriate, don't you think...?
